Under his protection and in his bed…

For Fallon Wayland, birthdays are just another reminder of her looming spinsterhood. This year is shaping up to be no different. Unfairly fired from her job, dumped by her boyfriend, and oh yes, witnessing the murder of a high-ranking lieutenant in the local crime family… Yeah, birthdays suck.

Ever since a disastrous, hot-as-hell kiss years ago, soldier-turned-security specialist Shane Roarke has avoided his baby sister’s reckless—and gorgeous—best friend. Yet when her life is threatened after she witnesses a gang hit, he insists on protecting her…even if she objects.

The two are forced to hole up in a safe house. Alone. Passion long denied erupts between them, burning away their inhibitions. But even as layers—and clothes—are peeled away, danger closes in. Shane and Fallon might finally have a chance at love…if they survive long enough to see it.

The start of the Guarding Her Body series started off with a bang, literally, when our heroine, Fallon, witnesses a gang hit. The hitman warns her not to open her mouth or he will come after her, but Fallon does her civic duty and reports everything to the cops. As you can imagine, this does not go over well with the gang and her life is in immediate danger. Fallon doesn't ask anyone for help, which leads her best friend to ask her brother, Shane, to step in and protect Fallon. Shane came home from his military service with a combat wound and opened a security/protection firm with some of his combat buddies. He is every bit a wounded alpha male, and he has tried to stay away from his little sister's best friend she she was 18 years old. The couple is thrown together in the face of danger, which leads to them steaming up the sheets something fierce.

This was a good start to the series, but it was one of those books that, while I really enjoyed it, I don't have a huge amount to say about it. The action and suspense was good. The sexual tension between Fallon and Shane was off the charts, and the chemistry between them was explosive. If you are looking for a quick romance suspense read, you won't be disappointed by this one.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
