Excerpt
Someone to Care
by Mary Balogh

Marcel Lamarr, Marquess of Dorchester and Viola Kingsley have both found themselves stranded by carriage woes in a country village where a fair is about to take place. Marcel had made advances to Viola fifteen years before, when she was the married mother of young children, but she had repulsed his advances. Now he persuades her to spend the day at the fair with him and the evening at a dance on the village green:

They joined the lines for a country dance, less vigorous, more intricate than the reel. He was an elegant, accomplished dancer, as Viola well remembered. He also had a gift for focusing his attention upon his partner, even when he was performing some figures of the set with another.
How wonderful it was, she thought as she danced, the cool evening air on her face and arms below her shawl, to be someone's focus of attention, to be made to feel even for just a short while that she was the only person in the world who really mattered. It was not that she craved attention all the time. Far from it. She never had. But oh, sometimes it felt wonderful. They were surrounded by pretty, laughing young women, several of whom were darting half frightened, half appreciative glances at the formidable stranger in their midst, but he appeared to see no one but her.
It was all artifice, of course. It was all part of his appeal, and part of the danger. But it did not matter. She was not for a moment deceived by it. When the dancing was over for the evening, or perhaps even before it ended, they would return to their rooms at the inn, and tomorrow they would be on their separate ways and would very probably never see each other again. She did not mingle with the ton any longer.
So tonight—this evening—was to be enjoyed for what it was. A brief escape offered by fate.
All the sets were country dances or reels. They were what the villagers and farmers from the surrounding countryside knew and wanted. Viola and Mr. Lamarr—Marcel—danced two of them and watched a few more. But when one tune started he lifted a finger as though to stop her from saying anything, listened intently for a moment, and then turned to her.
"One could dance a waltz to this," he said.
She listened too and agreed. But no one else was waltzing. The dancers were in line, performing steps with which Viola was unfamiliar.
"We will waltz." It was an imperious command.
"Oh, hardly," she protested.
But he was holding out a hand for hers. "I believe waltzing is something you and I never did together, Viola," he said. "We will right that wrong. Come."
"Marcel." She frowned.
"Ah," he said. "I like it—the sound of you speaking my name. But come." He took her hand, and she did not resist as he led her about the green to the side nearest the church, where there were no people, perhaps because full night had fallen and the light from the lamps did not penetrate this far. Here there was heavy shade, though not total darkness. It was a clear night, illumined by both moonlight and starlight.
"You will waltz with me here," he said. It was still not a question. He was offering her no choice. Neither, of course, was he coercing her.
"But people will see," she protested.
"And?" She was aware that his eyebrows were raised. "They will see us dancing together. Scandalous goings on indeed."
"Oh, very well," she said, raising her left hand to set on his shoulder as his right arm came about her waist. How could she possibly resist? She had always thought the waltz the most romantic dance ever invented, yet there had been no such thing when she was young. There were still people who thought there was something scandalous about it, a man and a woman dancing a whole set exclusively with each other, face to face, their hands touching each other.
He took her free hand in his, listened a moment, and then led her into a waltz, twirling about the uneven ground of the village green, the sounds of voices and laughter seeming far away though they were only just beyond the shadows. She was very aware of his hands, the one resting firmly against the arch of her back at the waist, the other clasped about hers. She was aware that there was only an inch of space between his evening coat and her bosom, that their legs occasionally touched, that he was looking down at her, that she was looking back. She could not see him clearly in the darkness, but she knew his eyes were on hers. She could feel his body heat, smell his cologne, feel his magnetism. She could hear his breath.
She did not know how long it went on. Probably no longer than ten minutes. The dance had already been in progress, after all, when they started. It might have been forever. Viola forgot everything except the waltz and the man with whom she danced it in silence.
"Viola," he said softly next to her ear when the music stopped. He did not immediately release her, and she made no move to extricate herself from his arms. "Let us go see what is behind the church, shall we?"
A churchyard, she supposed. But actually there was a sort of meadow beyond that, sloping downward to a river she had only half noticed this morning from the carriage window. A willow tree leaned over from the bank and almost touched the water. A humpbacked stone bridge crossed the river a short way to their left. It must all be very picturesque in the daylight. But so was the rest of the village.
They stood halfway between the low churchyard wall and the river, which winked in the moonlight, and listened to the slight rushing sound of water. The music began again, but the sound of it and of voices and laughter seemed far away now, part of some other world that did not concern them. His arm, through which her hand had been drawn, came about her waist to draw her to his side, and she wondered idly, not if she ought to allow it, but if she would. She made no move to bat his arm away or to take a step to the side. Rather, she leaned against him.
She would allow it, then. But she was in no danger. She knew what he was about. She understood. It did not matter.
He nudged her head onto his shoulder, lifted her chin with his long fingers, and bent his face to hers to kiss her.

THE GAMBLE
Life isn't meant to be perfect. It's meant to be lived . . .

Nina Sheridan thought she'd found the perfect man who would become the perfect husband. She was wrong. When Nina realizes the man she planned to grow old with doesn't know her at all, it's time to rethink her idea of perfect. And what better place to get her life in order than a remote Colorado mountain town halfway around the world?

Gnaw Bone, Colorado, may not be flashy or cosmopolitan, but it's got a brand of hospitality all its own. Nina isn't entirely sure she's ready to trade the life she thought she wanted in England for cozy evenings in her mountain retreat, and she definitely isn't sure she's ready to handle the connection she feels to the owner of her rental house, Max Holden . . .

Nina didn't come to Colorado to find love, but even the best-laid plans can go awry. Now, if Nina can let go of her past, Max-and a future in Gnaw Bone-might just be the perfect second chance she's been waiting for.

Lauren's fresh start does not include her growing feelings for her boss, Tate Jackson. She'll take the new friends, the new job, not to mention the incredible banana bread from the local coffee shop, but love is not on the agenda.

However, the people of Carnal know chemistry when they see it, and they're not about to let Tate and Lauren miss their chance.

All you need is a little luck.

Lexie Berry has had nothing but bad luck. You name it, Lexie has probably survived it-or worse. But there's only so much bad luck a girl can take, and now one promise is all that stands between her and a brand-new life.

When that promise brings her to Carnal, Colorado, Lexie isn't sure the rough, yet strangely charming, town is for her. But there's something Carnal has that might just make staying around worth it . . . and that's Ty Walker.

For five years, Ty was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. Now he wants revenge on the people who framed him. Lexie knows there's a difference between vengeance and justice, and she'll do everything she can to make sure Ty gets the latter. And with the good people of Carnal on their side, Lexie and Ty might finally find their luck is changing for the better.

About the Author
Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake.

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Spring into Romance Giveaway Blog Hop

Spring is here!
What better time to share our favorite reads for the season?
Join in and tell everyone about what new reads you're excited about!

Most Anticipated Spring Releases

Hiya readers!
This Spring is going to be great for my reading interest... with several releases coming in my favorite series. So below are the books I am most looking forward to over the next couple months. Tell me what you are looking forward to!

Gin Blanco is probably the most kickass heroine ever. This series is a darker urban fantasy with an assassin heroine who runs a barbecue joint by day. The stories never fail to keep me entertained (and make me hungry as all get out).
This is the final installment of the Chicagoland Vampires series, and I will be sad to see them go. Ethan and Merrick were a great power couple, and the series offered lots of action witha little romance. I believe we will have a spinoff series to look forward to!
I was introduced to the Jane Yellowrock series after reading the Soulwood series earlier this year. I know I am late to the game, but I love Jane and Beast so much that I am in the midst of a binge read (in audio). So I'm excited for this next installment.
I met Rhenna Morgan at the RT Convention last year and she was awesome! I read the first book in this series, Rough & Tumble, earlier this year and I fell in love.  Her writing had the feel of Kristen Ashley, with strong alpha males and likable heroines.

Bambi Turns TWO! Let's Celebrate with a Giveaway!

Hey y'all!
I can't believe its been two years since I started this venture. You may have noticed that I have slowed down a bit lately... don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I just got bogged down with the holidays and with an eye issue (still getting that needle every month, ugh). Things should be back up and running on a regular basis soon - with a few new additions!

First, I am adding a cooking feature to the blog. One of my new years resolutions is to go back on the Paleo diet and try to stick with it. I feel so much better when I am eating non-processed organic foods, but I tend to get lazy and get tired of cooking. So I am hoping to hold myself accountable this year!

One of the biggest obstacles to paleo for me is that you HAVE to cook all the time. And cooking for one person is hard! Especially when you aren't a huge fan of leftovers. They just never taste as good to me. So I will be trying a number of Paleo recipes this year and I hope to add one per week to the blog. They may be a big success or a total pinstrosity, and many will be recipes that are non-paleo that I have adapted with paleo ingredients. I should have my first success by this weekend... and it is super yummy. So stay tuned!

Second, my goal this year is to get crafty! I have been turned onto the world of paper planning and papercraft, so I hope to include some of that on the blog. I will likely throw up a Plan With Me feature on Sundays in combination with the Stacking the Shelves meme. Much like the cooking feature, this will be full of projects and fails with the planner and my newly purchased Silhouette!

I also have a number of pieces of furniture that I bought for the purpose of refinishing, and they have been sitting here sad and ugly without being beautified. So my goal is to get started on that this year as well, and it's sure to make for some entertaining and profanity-laden blog posts!

So please let me express my gratitude for everyone that stops by my corner to read my nonsense! My book reviews will continue as I remain a reader at heart, and you will also be seeing some guest reviews from Julie as well! I will cut back on the books just a smidge so that I can complete all these projects and goals, but you will still see regular reviews from me and I hope to have them on a specific schedule soon.

So to express my appreciation for everyone who has stuck around, and all you new people dropping by Bambi's corner... LET'S HAVE A GIVEAWAY! I have to limit this giveaway to US residents due to the insane shipping costs out of the country. Enter via the Rafflecopter below, and tell your friends!

I loved the music, and the comedic way the witches were portrayed while still being the villains.
What's your favorite scary or Halloween themed movie?

#Hello2016 Blog Hop and Giveaway!

I would like to welcome all you Babes to Bambiland! We’re ringing in the New Year with lots of giveaways! And by sharing some fun and wacky facts about ourselves. There’s a new giveaway at each stop so be sure to visit them all!

Five Fun Facts about Bambi

  1. My real name is not Bambi. Shocker!!! I got saddled with this fun little nickname back when I was in law school and my friends were frequently saying - I swear, you are the dumbest smart person I know! It somewhat steamrolled from there, to the point where they were introducing me as Bambi when we were out blowing off steam. So now that I have a stuffy government job, I obviously can't be using my real name online... so Bambi Unbridled was born out of a need for anonymity.
  2. I think some of my blog clicks through google were people looking for porn. Hopefully they found some smutty book recommendations while they were here.
  3. I have had 3 separate men come up and lick my face on 3 separate occasions. No joke. I don't know if this is a thing now... or if I just look delicious. I now always carry antibacterial gel in my purse. Has anything like this ever happened to you?
  4. I once got propositioned by the pizza guy when he knocked on the door just as a raunchy sex scene started in the the smutty audiobook I was listening to. You would think I would have learned my lesson when the UPS guy knocked on my door during FSOG. But, no. I did learn after the pizza guy though - now I wear Bluetooth earphones when I am cleaning the house and listening to an audiobook!
  5. My most embarrassing moment of 2015 was when I got locked out of my house in my nightgown and had to crawl through the doggy door. My boobs got stuck. (Are you seeing the reason for my nickname now?)
So - what's this blog all about? It's nonsense really. It's all about book boyfriends, romance, comedy and swoonworthy moments. I will occasionally throw in a literary or thriller type read to broaden my horizons and give me a little break from my unattainable romantic fantasies. This year may see some new features come to the blog... I have toyed with posts about naturally curly hair woes, trying to follow the paleo lifestyle, and even craft projects. If you would like to see any of these features or have recommendations on what you would like to see from Bambi - give me a shout out below!

Book Blitz and Giveaway! Counsellor by Celia Aaron

Counsellor
by Celia Aaron
Series:  Acquisition #1
Publication date: September 28th 2015
Genres: Erotica, Romance

In the heart of Louisiana, the most powerful people in the South live behind elegant gates, mossy trees, and pleasant masks. Once every ten years, the pretense falls away and a tournament is held to determine who will rule them. The Acquisition is a crucible for the Southern nobility, a love letter written to a time when barbarism was enshrined as law.

Now, Sinclair Vinemont is in the running to claim the prize. There is only one way to win, and he has the key to do it — Stella Rousseau, his Acquisition. To save her father, Stella has agreed to become Sinclair’s slave for one year. Though she is at the mercy of the cold, treacherous Vinemont, Stella will not go willingly into darkness.

As Sinclair and Stella battle against each other and the clock, only one thing is certain: The Acquisition always ends in blood.

Excerpt

He strode forward, confidence in every movement, and pulled me behind him. The tree loomed ahead, the shackles glinting in the spotlight. Foreboding rose inside me and blotted out my voice, my heart, and my soul. I followed. There was nowhere else to go.

We took the stairs one at a time, each step adding a weight to my shoulders, a rock to my stomach. Finally, we stood next to Oakman. Everything beyond the glittering stage was a dark blur. The spotlight was a blinding sun, focused on me as if by a cruel child with a magnifying glass.

“Her name is Stella, not that it matters.” Vinemont was cold, his words like frost in my mind.

He untied my mask and yanked it from my face. Then he ripped the cloak from me, my skin tingling from the sudden onslaught of open air. A collective gasp rose up from the crowd, followed by thunderous applause.
