You probably aren't surprised to see another 5-Star Review from me for a Kristen Ashley book.  But I can't help it - she's Just. That. Good. If a book can make me laugh, ugly cry, and squirm in my seat... then its getting 5 Stars. So its no wonder that the majority of Kristen's books have gotten that rating from me. If I were able to live in a book, it would be one that she had written.  I think I would even take all the bad that happens in some of these stories just because I know I would have the KA profound goodness by the end. Seriously, if there is a such thing as an author soul mate, she is mine.

The Demon Hunting series promises to be a slapstick good time, perfect when you want pure entertainment, classic southernisms, and huge belly laughs.  One southern girl to another, I could totally tell that Lexi George grew up in the South because her characterization  and one-liners were spot on.

Well, it looks like I'm in the minority on this one. It didn't quite work for me. I could be hitting a reading slump, but I wasn't able to connect to the characters or get sufficiently interested in the story.

The Perfect Gentlemen have turned me into a heroine hater. With each successive book, I think I have found my favorite member of the group... but that's a lie. I want them all. I'm being a selfish catty bitchface because no female heroine is going to be good enough for one of these men... unless she is me, of course.  First we had Gabriel Bond, the corporate mogul. Then came Conner Sparks, secret agggeent man. Now we get the story of Dax Spencer, the handsome Naval Captain. Up next is Roman Calder, protector of POTUS. And then, we certainly can't forget Zach Hayes, leader of the free world!  But there is one Perfect Gentlemen missing - Maddox.  Mad cannot be dead! I mean, come on, his penis has its own Twitter account! There is just too much awesomeness and hilarity for him to be gone. I don't think Lexi and Shayla are cruel enough for him to really be dead, but they are being very close-mouthed about it.  What say you? Do you think he's at work behind the scenes? Is he Deep Throat? Much like Freddy, I have my own theories (as you can see from all my note tabs)!

Three years after the ending of Kilts and Daggers, the Highland Spies series continues with the third troublesome Walsingham sister, Elizabeth. If you have read the earlier books, you will know that the series has been following the Walsingham/Mildmay family, many of whom were engaged as spies for the Crown. Luckily for the Scottish men in their lives, the espionage activities have ceased (for the most part) and now they only have to deal with headstrong English women running amok through their keep.

The series in Midnight, Texas is getting progressively better with each book. I love the diverse cast of misfits in this curious town, and each resident has their own abilities and secrets. So far, I have found the female Midnighters more interesting than the men... but with the emergence of my favorite character from the Sookie Stackhouse series, Quinn, that may change as the series progress.

Audiobook Mini-Review: First Death by A.D. Starrling

If you follow the blog, you will know that I discovered A.D. Starrling last year and fell in love with her brainy writing style. Normally I am not a fan of short stories or reading prequels after I have started the series... but I have enjoyed Starrling's snippets and peeks into the Seventeen world.

First Death gives us a glimpse into the origins of Lucas Soul, the hero of Soul Meaning. We finally get to meet Lucas' father and mother, and see the love they shared for each other and their son. The Soul parents were star-crossed lovers, each from a different sect of the supernatural race of immortals that is featured in this series. Their relationship and son, who is viewed as an abomination, earns them a death warrant, so they have been hiding out in the Alaskan (I think?) wilderness. Where ever it is they are hiding, its cold and there is lots of snow! Anywho, this is the story of how Lucas' family was discovered and his resulting first death. 

If you are a fan of A.D. Starrling, you will enjoy this peek into Lucas' past.  If you have yet to read this wonderful author, I suggest you start with this book, then move onto Soul Meaning.  Starrling chose the perfect narrator for this book.  Michael Bower narrated at a great pace and was able to convey the action in a way that you could feel the adrenaline pumping right along with Lucas during these horrible events.
