This is a cute, somewhat clean romance that requires you to suspend your belief and just roll with it for entertainment purposes. The narrator, Tami Leah Lacy did a good job with the narration performance. Her character voices were distinct and gender appropriate. She did read a little slow for me so I sped the timing up to 1.3x or so.
Our heroine, Joanna Price, book editor, has just boarded a flight after marrying the man of her dreams, Liam. She attempts to convince the man in the seat next to her to swap with her new husband so they can canoodle on the way to their honeymoon... but Connor Duffield is having none of it. Connor pretty much sees Joanna as an annoying bubbly blonde bimbo that WON'T. SHUT. UP. And Joanna sees Connor as a rude inconsiderate brute. Lucky Liam is not thinking anything as he is chatting away with the supermodel sitting next to him a few rows back. Trouble occurs in the form of an explosion over the Bermuda Triangle, and the mismatched couple find themselves together on a deserted island. Well, deserted except for the monkeys.
Joanna and Connor are stuck together in this isolated place and must find food, water, and learn to coexist with the monkey population. There is lots and lots and lots of bickering. Honestly, Joanna got on my nerves and I totally felt for Connor. I may have been tempted to tie her to a tree on the other side of the island. They do figure out a way to work together so the bulk of the book is about what you would expect of people stranded on an island - kinda like an episode of Survivor minus the challenges and voting.
Because Joanna is married and doesn't know the fate of her husband, there is not really any romance for a good portion of the book. The title is a bit of a misnomer - there wasn't any instalove or hanky panky taking place. The time on the island was more of a period of personal growth for our characters. Once they are rescued, I did start to feel bad for Joanna and her annoying behavior stopped. I did like Connor quite a bit... but I am usually a sucker for the gruff manly-men type of hero.
I enjoyed the direction that Joanna's career took once they were back on the mainland. As a reader, its always fun to get a glimpse into the editing/publishing/writing field. There was definitely some good drama that occurred back on the mainland as well, but I don't want to give any spoilers so you will just have to find those out for yourself. I do wish there would have been a bit of steam to the romance though... there were a couple of kisses but all the good stuff happened off page behind a closed door.
