Tuesday Teaser: The Honey Series by Kristen Ashley

Did you guys hear? My abso-favorite author has a new series coming out with St. Martin's Press!  I was so stoked to get this news from the publisher today!  I have been watching Kristen's updates on Facebook... but now we have dates!  This is the ultimate tease, knowing that the goodness is out there, but we have to wait almost a year for it! I am very interested to see how this series is going to turn out as its a little outside of my normal trope. But I always say, Queen Ashley could probably write the phone book and I would read it. So of course I clicked my pre-order button. Pre-Order your copies today!

VirginRNSynopsis: Her bosom heaved at an alarming rate as his rough hand found its way down to her soft, yet wiry briar patch... Can you say briar patch in a romance novel? What about meat sword? That’s what it is…a meat sword, right, all meaty and sword like, slaying through the inner dungeons of a woman’s dark desires. What about breasts? Do bosoms really heave? God, I have no idea what happens when private parts touch. I’m a virgin trying to write a romance novel and can’t seem to write past a sex scene thanks to my lack of experience. My two best friends encourage me to drop the pen for a while and gain some real life practice through multiple dating facets such as blind dates, online profiles, and random hookups. But losing my virginity is proving to be tougher than expected… TVRNLIVEBanner

My Rating:
Sultry Scale:

This is not a fake 5 star review! Yes, I was provided an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Just from the teasers I had seen, I was very excited for this book. And it lived up to the hype. Meghan Quinn was freaking hilarious - I'm not pulling your leg. I have already recommended that my friends need to read this as soon as its released.

The Virgin Romance Novelist is a side-splitting romantic comedy featuring Rosie, a 23 year old virgin who grew up very sheltered and has only learned about sex from old school romances of the throbbing manroot and heaving bosoms variety. Rosie has a very unique style - she kinda dresses like a pinup. I love that, very hip and trendy. But trying to write a romance novel when she's never even masturbated is stumping Rosie. So she sets out to find some experience and hilarity ensues. Think comedy a la 40 Year Old Virgin meets nerdy book lover... complete with humiliating and painful wax scene.

Will this book change your life? No, of course not.
Is it meant to? No.

Will this book make people stare at you funny? Yes. Most definitely.
Because I guarantee you are going to be laughing uproariously at some time while reading this. Case in point... I was out for lunch at the hotel restaurant by my office and decided to read on my phone while waiting for my food. It was during this foray that Rosie lets out a toot at a very very inopportune moment... and I heehaw laughed so loud that I am pretty sure everyone in the restaurant turned to look at me. I'm serious - I was braying like a donkey and tears were coming from my eyes. Try explaining why you were laughing so hard because I can definitely tell you that you won't be describing that scene to a total stranger.

If you are a chick that likes slapstick comedy - this book is for you. It even has a sweet little love story and might make you get weepy a time or two. I loved it. So you should read it. Like right now. (Or as soon as its released anyway.) Don't say I didn't warn you about ugly donkey laughs.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped. Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking. Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Tuesday Teaser with Review: Dark Instincts by Suzanne Wright

Dark Instinct by Suzanne Wright
Series: Phoenix Pack, #4
Pub Date: April 7, 2014

My Rating:
Sultry Scale:

It happens whenever wolf shifter Roni Axton is near Marcus Fuller: a crackle of sexual awareness that’s intoxicating…and deeply annoying. Marcus is a pack enforcer who oozes power, but Roni is lethal in her own right—nothing like the flirty females who flock around him. Even still, his possessive gaze makes one thing clear. Marcus has singled her out for seduction, and he wants to make her sit up and beg.

No matter how aloof and unfazed Roni acts, Marcus can tell she wants him. When a brutal attack by a jackal pack forces them to work together, it’s the perfect opportunity for Marcus to chip away at her defenses—until he falls into his own trap, completely unprepared for the intensity of their connection. Roni is the only one who’s ever seen past his shifter charm and discovered the man hiding beneath it. And for Marcus, claiming Roni once will mean needing her forever.

I didn't read the blurb for this one before I started reading because I wanted the couple to surprise me.  I have to say that I was surprised that Roni was paired with Marcus. And this was the first book of this series where I liked the female character better than the male. Don't get me wrong, Marcus was yummy in his alpha male behavior. I liked that he was possessive, yet supportive, instead of just out-and-out controlling. He coaxed Roni into trusting him in a way that the other males probably would not have thought to try. But Marcus was kind of an unknown for me before this book - I never really paid attention to him in the earlier parts of the series.

Roni was a great heroine, and I was able to connect with her pretty quickly. I understood her need to escape into her wolf when people were coddling her or treating her as a weak female. I totally identify with this as I cannot stand for someone to think that I am not capable of doing something, whether its due to my back injury or due to being a girl. I am one of those independent capable chicks that does not need a man to be happy - and I felt like Roni was the same.

Dominic and Derren continue to be my favorite secondary characters, and I do hope that one of their books is coming next. This series just has a recipe to keep my interest no matter who the main characters are. There is just enough action, suspense, drama and steamy sex to keep the pace going for a fast, quick and interesting read. Rock on, Ms. Wright!

Tuesday Teaser (with Review)! Soaring by Kristen Ashley

Soaring by Kristen Ashley
Series:  Magdalene #2

My Rating:
Sultry Scale:

American heiress Amelia Hathaway needs to start anew.

Her husband cheated on her, and when everything she wanted in life slipped through her fingers, she fell apart. When she did, she took another heart wrenching hit as she lost the respect of her children.

When her ex took her family from California to live in the small town of Magdalene in Maine, Amelia decided it was time to sort herself out. In order to do that and win her children back, she moves to Cliff Blue, an architectural masterpiece on the rocky coast of Magdalene.

Her boxes aren’t even unpacked when she meets Mickey Donovan, a man who lives across the street, a man so beautiful Amelia takes one look at Mickey and knows she wants it all from him.

The problem is, she finds out swiftly that he’s friendly, he’s kind, but he doesn’t want everything back.

Amelia struggles to right past wrongs in her life at the same time find out who she wants to be. She also struggles with her attraction to the handsome firefighter who lives across the street.

But Amelia will face a surprise when her friendly neighbor becomes not-so-friendly. As Amelia and Mickey go head to head, Amelia must focus on winning back the hearts of her children.

She soon discovers she also must focus on winning the heart of a handsome firefighter who understands down to his soul the beautiful heiress who lives across the street is used to a life he cannot provide.

So you all have probably figured out by now that I am HUGE Kristen Ashley fan.  I have never read a Kristen Ashley book that I did not love.  I swear, she just gets me.  I love that she writes characters that are outside today's norm of the 20-22 year old new adult heroine.  Kristen's characters are typically in the 28-48 range... and no matter their age, They. Kick. Ass.  It's so nice for an author to recognize that not all of us are married off before we turn 25, or 35 or even 45. This is why I connect with all of her heroines.  They are genuine, passionate, push all your emotional buttons, and give us over-30 gals hope that just because we haven't met our match, he is still out there somewhere waiting to claim us like the alpha male that he is.  Which brings me to her men... OMG her men! Alphas of all ages.  If only one would come to life and show up on my doorstep.  I have my favorites but honestly I would not be choosey with any Kristen Ashley man.

In this book, Amelia is a 47 year old woman getting over a really bad divorce and trying to put her family back together.  Mickey is a 48 year old Irish Fireman Boxer - need I say more?  Well, he is also a good dad trying to shield his kids from his nightmare of an ex wife.  There is not any suspense to this book... its just a nice love story between adults blending their families and all the drama and wonderful things that can carry with it. This series contains stories that could happen in real life... and don't we all wish we had the sex life in a Kristen Ashley book? Our secondary characters focus mostly on the kids... and Kristen writes cool kids. This is saying a lot coming from me as I am not a kid person at all. And we get a tiny sneak peak at who will be the focus of book 3: the sexy sheriff (Coert) and a fiesty redhead from Denver. Wonder if we have met her previously in one of Kristen's other series?

In sum, this is a great HEA love story with believable characters that will make you laugh, cry, smile, and hate just because you want to trade places with her.

My Review: 4 of 5 Stars
Sultry Scale: 3 of 5 flames

Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant.

While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia. There was nothing disguised about Jake. Including the fact he made a habit of making very bad decisions about who to give his love.

But for Josephine and Jake, there was one person who adored them. One person who knew how to lead them to happiness. And one person who was intent on doing it.
Even if she had to do it as her final wish on this earth.
