I thought things couldn't get worse. I was wrong. 
I found out what I really wanted and was forced to give him up. Just as I found out who I really am, I was presented to the elusive Horde King as a gift. 
This was the mystical being I was hidden from for more than twenty years. 
Although Ryder promised to save me, I couldn't let him get near this creature, so I willingly (sort of) signed myself over to be his new plaything. 
Now in the Horde Realm, nothing is going remotely like I thought it would. 
My powers and emotions are on the fritz, and each day seems to bring surprises that I am not sure how to deal with. 
The Horde King thinks he has me exactly where he wants me. 
He thinks he has taken all of my options away. 
I still have choices. 
Embracing what destiny has planned for me, or escaping it.

I wish I had written this review before I started Seducing Destiny... that was my mistake. It's already overshadowing what I read in Book 3. Argh! So I'm gonna try to remember... here goes!

We finally found out the identity of the elusive Horde King (like we didn't know already). I was annoyed with Syn at this point. How was she so freaking blind? I mean, she had seen his beast eyes and heard the multi-layered voice before. And could his beast form really look that different? It doesn't seem like it is from the description. I love that the beast is a Terrible Beauty... though I wish he had a name. I don't like calling him beast. And come on, how can you not love a creature made for sex with an 8" tongue? Freaky, Ms. Hutchins. I see you.

Ristan continues to be my favorite secondary character. I would really like to see him get his own book... but I have a feeling there is something going on between him and Danu. The whole conversation between Ristan and Ryder about wooing cracked me up. Ryder ended up being pretty good w/ the woo, despite his misgivings. I loved that he took her to the OPI Headquarters. That was a nice touch.

Overall I don't feel like there was a ton of action in this book - we just had a nice enjoyable progression of the story... but nothing too earth shattering. There was some drama about Ryder's pre-arranged engagement to Claire's sister, and Claire continues to be a huge biatch. Syn finally fully accepts her destiny and that she is fae... but there is foreshadowing she may be more than we thought. Keep reading to find out!

With each touch and word, he pulls my heart closer to himself and at the same time he is trying to keep me at arm’s length. The dance he and I have begun, is getting more complicated as our worlds are being shaken from all sides, and the visions of the future are frightening, and nothing like I had ever pictured for myself or those I care for.

This time, destiny is taunting me.

I had always thought that I controlled my destiny. Now, my rights are being taken from me by powerful people and leaving me with alternatives that range between bad and awful.

This time, the choices I have to make can decide the fate of both worlds.

Everything is unraveling, and nothing will ever be the same again. 

I am so glad the next book in the series is already out - because there is no way I could wait for the next book after that ending! However, this not being the first time I read this book, I felt myself being more critical this time. I was impatient with the love-hate relationship between Ryder and Syn. And I feel like she is a bit dense when it comes to figuring things out.

That being said - I love everything else about this series. It is causing me to neglect my other obligations.. which is always the sign of a good book. The excuses they keep making for Ryder being a total ass are interesting, and I don't know my position on them yet. He is not human, and we shouldn't expect him to act like one. But does that excuse him from being an amoral prick? I'm not sure. That being said, I LOVE Ryder's beast. I don't know why - but I do. And we got the hint that the brothers have beasts too... so I am crossing my fingers that Amelia Hutchins writes a spinoff series where all the brothers (and Adam) found their fated mates.

Things I loved about this book? Sexytime that was hot, sexy and with all the magic of the fae. We got more Ristan - my favorite secondary character. Mr. Fancy Pants! You turn back into a dog right now! I like when the story switches to Faery. The whole Faery world is fascinating to me, and I like Amelia's take on it. We finally meet the mysterious Horde King - and he is a terrible beauty. Who is he? Well, read and see if you can figure it out!

I am a huge fan of Karina Halle.  Her Artists trilogy is one of my favorites.  I only wish I had started blogging before I read it.  Maybe one day I will do a re-read so I can post my review here.  The characters in this series also appeared in The Artists Trilogy.  I recommend you start with those books to get some insight on Javier.

I'm not much into musician romances... but I met Michelle Mankin at the 2015 Nola Author Event. She was super fun and told me a little bit about this book, and I decided to try it. I'm glad I did. This book features a country music singer rather than rocker or pop star. I can get down with a country music singer. And although we didn't see alot of Blade in this first episode, it was enough to peak my curiosity.

This book has all the makings of a great paranormal story, and I love that its set in New Orleans using local places, customs, myths and legends. The idea of using Mardi Gras mythology for a story is unique and fun to follow.

I can't say much more than that about this story at this point, because I've only read this first part of the serial. This is why I don't care for serials - its hard to review an unfinished story - and you have to wait for the next episode to come out. As a avaricious reader, I probably read 20+ books before the next episode is out, so I will have forgotten what happened in the first episode. For this reason, I am going to put this serial on hold until all of the episodes have been released. I will probably have to re-read this episode at that point, so I am looking forward to reading once the whole book is complete.

Review: Jack and Djinn by Jasinda Wilder

She quickly discovers two things: one, that she has a lot more power and strength hidden within herself than she’d ever imagined, and two, that Jack's gentle, unwavering love can heal a lifetime of wounds and scars.

Will they survive to explore all that could be between them? 

This was a great little read. Contemporary romance with a touch of the paranormal. It was also different from other paranormal series I have read.

Let's start with Miriam, who is a djinni. I have read stories about djinn before, but the djinn were always men. The Oracle by Thea Harrison and The Sylph series by LJ McDonald come to mind. Miriam is an American of Islamic descent, her parents being Iraqi immigrants. Miriam is westernized - she doesn't wear a Habib and she consorts with men. This is quite scandalous to others in the Islamic culture. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to connect with Miri's character as I am a reader that envisions myself in the lead role. And I, being so white-bread American, sometimes have a difficult time connecting with other cultures in the lead role. But that wasn't the case here, I liked Miri and she got my empathy going. I think her being westernized helped with that somewhat. I did find myself being a tad annoyed with her at times, and you will see why. But Jasinda has a great author's note at the end to explain things. My heart goes out to her and I'm really glad she has her Jack.

Now... let's talk about Jack. I loved Jack and his whole family. He has a huge Irish family and I could just picture their antics as I was reading. There were some scenrs that reminded me of Snatch, so i was picturing Jack as Brad Pitt for the rest of the book. I hope we get to see more of grandpa Sean in future books. And if Sean is based on a real person - I want to steal him! Otherwise, you may find me lurking around the Irish Channel and pubs in the area looking for my own Irishman. I have freckles out the wazoo (literally, the wazoo) so I tend go for the ones they call "Black Irish" - the swarthy Pict-like complexion, dark hair, mesmerizing eyes, and great accent. If you see one of the's hanging around, I CALL DIBS!

The book was told in first person, alternating between Miriam and the delectable Detective Carson, who I connected with right from the first page because of this:

Carson stood up and wiped the pen on his pant leg, wishing he hadn’t just poked a dead body with it—he had a tendency to chew on his pens.

I totally was chewing in a pen when I read that, so of course I started freaking out about where it had been. Ew, I want to bleach my mouth out. I think the next book in the series is going to me Carson's story... so we'll be seeing a lot more of him. There was some foreshadowing in this book of what I think we will be seeing later in the series. It sounds interesting so you will definitely want to keep reading. Plus, if you've read Alpha and Beta, you know that Jasinda is really good at writing smexytime!

In sum, this one is getting 4 Stars and 3 Flames from Bambi Unbridled.  I lIke that the paranormal was mixed in with the contemporary so that it didn't follow the standard paranormal romance trope. I also really liked the explanatory note at the beginning of what the Quran says about the djinn. It's always a bonus to learn something with your smutty romance.

Side note: I met Jasinda and Jack recently at the Nola Author Event... and they are cute as a button together. Jasinda was giving out this great red wine chapstick. It apparently smelled really good because one of my dogs smelled it and dug in my bag and ate it. He lost 2 teeth chewing it open! (He's really old and his name is Dopey for a reason.) Well, let me just say, you don't want to know what happens when a dog eats chapstick. It was messy. Ick. So if you have the opportunity to meet Jasinda, look around for a red wine flavored chapstick!

Note 2: I received a free copy of this book for review. However,  once I got it, I realized I had already bought the book on Amazon and it was in my growing TBR list. Oops.

How it all started…

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—-dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.

Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.

The dark, passion it becomes…

Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, allof which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

Nooooooooo! You cant end it there! (The sound that just woke my dogs from a dead sleep at 2am.)

It's funny how you forget certain aspects of a book as time passes. I first read this book in 2012. Between then and now, I had forgotten about that huge ass cliffhanger. That suprises me given it was the reason I put the series on hold in the first place. Let me clarify, I didn't postpone reading because I didn't like the books. No, I liked the first book so much that I knew I would not be patient enough to wait any significant length of time between releases.

So now that the series is complete, I am excited to embark on this journey again. And this time, I am taking my bookclub (the Chicklits) with me! We will be discussing this book at our meeting in a few days.

This book has it all. We have the mystery angle with the missing Rebecca, and possibly Ella. We have a budding romance, steamy sex and tortured hero(ine) with Chris and Sara. We get some hints at BDSM from Rebecca's journals. We have villians yet to be officially identified. Daddy issues and dead mothers. A sexual awakening. A brooding alpha male. A handsome domineering boss. Art and wine and opera. Drama! I mean what else can she pack in here? It was great and I'm happy to finally be reading the story.

I have yet to form a clear picture of Sara... probably because I am casting myself in the role (as usual). I've had a few ideas for Chris and Mark... what do you think?

I have to first apologize to the author and publisher of this book. I received a free copy for review, but then it fell through the cracks and I just recently ran across it again.

This was an enjoyable read, but it didn't have me excited to get back to the book. Though some of that can be attributed to the fact that I was reading it in the midst of Mardi Gras. I even read it while camped out in the cold before the parades started one day.

Anywho, the blurb and the cover had me thinking this was going to be a quick funny romcom... but that wasn't the case. This was the story of two somewhat damaged individuals finding each other, and love seems to solve all their problems. I did get emotionally invested in the characters - more so with Jackson than Monica. I even found myself tearing up at a couple points in the book.

Jackson is our hunky young mayor suffering from the loss of his parents and raising his younger sister. I don't normally go for the good guy types, but Jackson was broody and passionate enough to win me over. If I could've met a good guy like him, my parents would be estastic and my dating life would have had a lot less drama! But there's still hope, so I'll cross my fingers real hard.

Monica is a tortured heroine of the variety that acts out and rebels against her childhood with sex, drugs and rock-and-roll. Then she is embarrassed by her behavior and reputation that follows her as an adult. I didn't start connecting with Monica's character until the latter portion of the book when she is dealing with her feelings for Jackson and her mother. I guess I'm still a skeptic with regard to the whole "love will set you free" premise.

So overall it was a good read, just not very exciting. I'm not sure if it's because I have a galley copy, but there was not good delineation when the story was shifting focus. One minute you'd be reading about Jackson, then the next paragraph switches to Shelby. (It's told in 3rd person POV, by the way.) I think some separation between the paragraphs would've helped out with transitions in the story.

The bartender brings me another Cosmo and I pay him with a fifty. He brings my change back and I leave it on the bar. I’ll just have to get it out for my next few drinks again anyway. I start to sip on my cocktail as Danny’s face flashes through my mind. I wince, sigh and close my eyes tight to try to rid myself of the image. The music in here is nice, soothing, gentle, soft music, not too loud, and nothing like the stupid music they play in bars these days. That’s why I like it here. It’s a place to come and unwind from the stressors of life. And people tend to leave you alone as they’re all too busy drowning in their own sorrows. He is ruggedly handsome, wearing dark jeans, a black shirt, and a leather jacket. He looks a lot like a bad boy and maybe that’s what I need right now. I cock my head to the side and raise an eyebrow as I look at him. His face is half in the shadows so I can’t see his eyes.
“More like a rough five years,” I reply and he nods his head and half-laughs.
“Well, in that case, can I buy you another drink?” he asks leaning in a little closer to me. I can smell his aftershave, and it instantly makes me want him closer. It’s strange, I work with men all day and smell their aftershave, but never has it had this effect on me. I look up at him and he leans in closer out of the shadows and I look into his eyes. Mine open wide as I gaze at the beauty of them. I shake my head slightly while I stare into his gorgeous mesmerizing eyes focusing on the differing colours.
“See something you like?” he asks cockily with a smirk.
I huff, cross my legs and fold my arms over my chest.
“Someone has tickets on himself. No, I was looking at your eyes. I’ve never seen anything like them before, it’s fascinating. Are they contact lenses?” I ask as he pulls up a stool beside me and chuckles.
“The ladies always love my eyes. No, it’s not contacts, just something I’ve had since birth, it’s rare but not impossible. One green eye and one blue isn’t really that weird now is it?” he asks with a smile that lights up the dimly lit room.
I shift in my seat. He really is ridiculously good looking. It’s unnerving.
“Dunno, to me it kind of makes you a bit of a freak,” I reply and he smiles and nods.
“Yeah, I guess it does, but we all have a little freak in us somewhere?” he states and I raise my eyebrows at him.
“Ain’t that the truth,” I declare and take a sip of my Cosmo.

Having worked in the optical industry for some time, K E Osborn decided it was time to leave the optical world behind and start on something new. With a background in graphic design and a flair for all things creative, she tried her hand at writing.
K E Osborn hid the fact that she was writing from her family, as she believed her first story was simply something she had to get on paper first and then judge if it was good enough for others to read.
