Loving the Secret Billionaire is the first installment in Adriana Anders' Love at Last novella series. I am a fan of Anders' writing style and having been reading the Blank Canvas series, but I wasn't able to connect with this story. The writing style was fine - I just got caught up in the pitfalls of a novella and wanted more information.

Veronica Cruz is a preschool teacher turned political activist who has decided to run for City Council. She is Hispanic for those of you searching out POC heroines. I admired her desire to make a difference, and her grit for hoofing it around town to campaign house-by-house. I was a bit worried that she was going to be too political for me (there is a mention of socialism), but the politics lightened up after the initial chapters. I lost my faith in her though towards the end as a result of her response to what I saw as a relative non-event by the hero.

Zach, the hero, was somewhat diverse as well, as a blind and reclusive man living on the outskirts of town. Of course our hero is gorgeous... but you may need to suspend your belief in regard to his character. He writes code and is a computer hacker, and I was really curious how he accomplished these feats without his sight. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done... but I just had lots and lots of questions. He got along very very well despite his disability, and I would have liked to know more about how he got to that level of mobility and independence. Our hero is also a virgin (who likes to listen to porn), who turned into a sex god at the first kiss. I would have liked to know how he came to be a billionaire as well. I guess I was just craving more character development in general.

I think I prefer my novellas to be more like 200 pages so, while quick, they can still provide a little more detail and development. I really do like Anders' writing style and have one of her standard-length audiobooks up for review next week. So if you are a fan of hers, I would not dissuade you from reading this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the author.
