Chloe Jeffries is a petite control freak with endless energy. Writing for a popular tv show let's her channel that energy into a lucrative and creative endeavor, but it's the voices in her head that provide the show with its entertaining storylines. Unfortunately, one of the voices is louder than most and has decided to stalk someone on set. Chloe doesn't know who the intended victim is, but she's willing to help figure it out..within reason, of course. She never expected someone like Shane Westman to show up and disrupt the little bubble of creativity she's created on the set, nor did she expect to be attracted to someone who has the personality of an ice cube.

Shane Westman is trying to move on from a wartime situation that ended up beyond his control. Agreeing to a favor for his best friend and soon-to-be boss, Shane agrees to give a security assessment for the movie set after threats are reported since his strength lies in strategy and security. His ability to lock down all emotion garnered him the nickname 'Avalanche' in the Army Rangers, but his icy persona all but melts in the face of Chloe's fiery temper.

Shane and Chloe's romance was actually quite amusing! Chloe dished out more insults than compliments to Shane, and he must have been a glutton for punishment because he kept coming back for more! Their attraction was a true case of opposites attract, but it made for sarcastic conversations and great comebacks with a few steamy results!

Janie crouch is a new author to me and I have to say, I was impressed with this book! Her writing is smooth, the suspense was on target, and frankly, I never suspected the surprise twist with the villain! I really enjoyed the byplay between Shane and Chloe and how their romance developed at a nice, steady pace. The secondary characters gave lots of possibilities for villains and I appreciated the guessing game the author had me engaged in!

Book 3 in the Instinct series, I had no problems reading Survival Instinct as a stand alone. The book was a great read with a strong focus on romantic suspense and a slight twinge of paranormal regarding Chloe's psychic abilities.

I reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher via Tasty Book Tours.
